About the therapy process.

A Continuum of Healing and Learning

Signe Nestingen explains the process of therapy as it relates to healing and learning for clients around the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN.It has been my experience that the work of psychotherapy begins with your decision to seek help. I think of therapy as a continuum of healing and learning. First I listen. I want to accurately understand the problems you are experiencing.  Next we make a plan so that you can start to feel better. We prioritize what to respond to first, we set goals, check on your progress, and determine available resources. Third, you learn about yourself. you learn to listen to yourself the way I listen to you. Tracking your thoughts and feelings you have the opportunity to learn how what you think or feel affects your actions and interactions with yourself and others. As you move along this continuum of therapy you find that you are better equipped to meet life's challenges and we begin the process of ending therapy.

It has been my experience that the work of psychotherapy begins with your decision to seek help. I think of therapy as a continuum of healing and learning. As you describe the reasons for seeking therapy I will listen and probably ask some questions. Once we have an accurate understanding of your experiences we will set some goals and formulate a road map toward healing.
